I found this slip of paper between the pages of a book. It reads, in script that it way too lovely and composed to be mine: "Ma (but) Lei non e' qui che peccato," Italian for: "But she's not here, what a shame."
P.S. I suspect that this may have been written by my ex-mother-in-law, who maybe was never my mother-in-law at all because she died before my ex-husband and I married. But I'm just not sure. It feels ghostly, resonant.
